I am in the process of making a mold for a ducting that I would like to easily reproduce using fiberglass.

Those of us using epoxy never put gel coat directly on top the epoxy. We generally use a high build epoxy primer and then a finish primer and then a 2 part polyurethane. We dont want to have to sand the epoxy but generally would prefer to sand the high build as its a lot easier.
I would clean it up and leave the gray gelcoat. If you decide to recoat it bilge coat or gel coat you are going to need to address the adhesion issue. It will need to be de-greased cleaned and then sanded or the same thing will happen again.

I would use the lost foam method but since I want to reproduce it this is out of the question. I read a post that said that Epoxy paint is. Casting resins typical cure in 36-48 hours and epoxy resins cure in 12-24 hours.
However epoxy resins will begin to gel in as quick as 20 minutes whereas casting resins may take upwards of 18 hours to gel. Because casting resins are typically capable of thicker pours they dissipate heat exotherm much slower than coating epoxy. The gel-coat was just recieved from Spectrum Color and layed down differently inside and out same pot shot both sides so Im pretty sure the product isnt the problem.

But the real issue is UV damage which has broken down the resin and make for a chalking - porous - not good bonding surface. The fix is a solvent thinned eopxy primer like esp 155 which will firm up the surface and provide a good fresh bonding surface. Chemical stripping and Gel coat or Epoxy primer.

I wouldnt think that a gel coat would attach onto epoxy. Never done it dont mess with gel coat so I cant say. Look for ecoFinnish that would be a permanent fix to the finish.
Depending on how much wear your floor gets or which product you choose an epoxy floor finish should last at least three to five years. One last thing to consider is pricing. Latex and oil paint will cost about half as much as an epoxy paint.
Keep in mind that both types of finishes usually require at least two coats to get the best results.
